Firstly, let us introduce ourselves, as your BID Marketing Managers!
We are both local girls who are really passionate about making Brighouse a vibrant welcoming, safe, secure and destination town. We are job sharing the Brighouse BID job and bring a real complimentary mix of skills that spans across business support, digital marketing, raising finance and running events.
Here’s a little intro to us:
My name is Michelle Veasey. As well as being a part-time BID Manager I have a small digital marketing agency. I specialise in helping businesses grow their businesses using digital channels to generate leads. My particular areas of interest are LinkedIn, Facebook advertising and building sales funnels. I’m looking forward to running workshops in our new office to help our BID levy payers get the most out of their online presence. I’m also about to be a levy payer as well, as my husband and I are about to open The Crafty Fox craft bar on Commercial Street as well as being a gigging musician often singing and playing the guitar in and around Brighouse.
I’m Lauren Barber, I am really pleased to be appointed as Marketing Manager for Brighouse. I have lived in the town for most of my life and I have so many ideas that I am excited to implement to help Brighouse to thrive. I have previously worked at Marketing Halifax, the Town Centre Forum, there I worked to promote Halifax and its town centre environment to fulfil its potential as a competitive destination in which to work, visit and live. As part of my role at Marketing Halifax, I worked on campaigning for a YES vote for Halifax BID, which was successfully voted in as the first BID in Calderdale. I also worked at Overgate Hospice for 8 years in the fundraising team. Responsible for organising the events and campaigns as well as raising awareness of the Hospice at local and national levels.
We know that you have been waiting to hear from the BID for a while as it was officially set up in April, however, we were appointed from the first of June, and since then we have hit the ground running, taking over from the BBI.
This has included setting up the BID infrastructure from scratch. Some of the big activities so far have been:
- Installing a new computer system so we can be as efficient as possible in our BID Management, as well as remaining GDPR compliant.
- Taking over the running of the events, which has been three to-date (including the mammoth Brighouse 1940s weekend.
- Acquiring our new home, which will be the old Marsden’s Jewellers on Bradford Road. We are hoping to move into very soon, see below for more details of our plans for the office.
- Setting up the communications channels and overall strategy for what we want to achieve from the next five years of running the Brighouse BID.

Here is what we have been up to in our first couple of months…
First and foremost our commitment is to supporting our levy payers to build a vibrant, safe, secure and welcoming town for many years to come. This will help to grow the local economy through events, by seeking funding and supporting Brighouse businesses with their marketing. Create a great place that people want to visit and that you and your staff can enjoy.
We have been working on the following:
Office Space – We are not quite moved in yet, but we are looking forward to welcoming you to drop-in sessions where you can tell us what you want from being part of the Brighouse BID, as well as business and marketing training workshops delivered by us to help you grow your business. Look out for those and book your free place as part your BID levy. The office is the old jewellers at 17 Bradford Road, Brighouse HD6 1RW.
Computer System – We have been working hard to implement a BID management system which will help us achieve our objectives as well as grow and manage the events offering. We will be using the system to build a reporting mechanism so you will have real-time access to see what we are achieving for Brighouse.
Meeting Levy Payers – We have already been out and about speaking to some of our Levy payers to find out what help and support they need. This has included some LinkedIn training to help businesses get the most out of the opportunity that social media presents to business growth. We have also started lobbying the council for support to those businesses that have suffered from flooding. We will endeavour to meet as many of you as we can. Delivering existing events – To date, we have been involved in the delivery of the 1940s weekend, and two Artisan Markets, with more planned for the rest of the year. We are hoping to expand and grow the events over the next few years and welcome ideas for what you would like to see in Brighouse. Ideas to date have been a Halloween Walk for children and a Music and Beer Festival.
Place Branding & Communications Plan – In order to achieve one of our objectives to make Brighouse a destination town we are exploring ideas to develop our own identity which will include place branding. We will be speaking to many stakeholders to understand what that means for Brighouse and we will be consulting you to what you would like to see. We are also currently redesigning our website (www.brighousebid.co.uk) which we will be updating regularly and will be the hub for all of our communications. We are always looking for content to share and we are committed to helping you to grow your business. There will be a facility for you to submit any news you have that you would like to promote, or jobs you would like to recruit for. We will be happy to share these across our channels.
